An idea (for Macy’s):
Start a consignment shop for used luxury goods in your store. Offer store credit to customers for bringing in gently used luxury brands they don’t use anymore
People are pivoting to more sustainable clothing options.
Macy’s had an edge because they already have customers and real estate across the nation and thus can make a luxury in-store consignment section.
This makes Macy’s a more forward brand. Being online isn’t enough; competing against Amazon is difficult. Millennials are more and more looking for brands and stores that stand for something.
Why not reduce waste, get people to shop at Macy’s and make money all at once?
I’m not aware of any in-person chain luxury consignment shop in the US. Sure, there are online luxury consignment stores, independent luxury consignment shops and Goodwill, but neither of them target the same market (shopping in person and luxury)
